The first Bed Bath & Beyond was opened in 1971 in Springfield, New Jersey, as Bed 'n Bath. Warren Eisenberg and Leonard Feinstein predicted that the market at the time would transition away from discount stores into specialty stores. They left their management positions at a struggling discount store to open Bed 'n Bath. Within just 14 years, they were operating 17 stores across New York and California. Bed 'n Bath's first superstore was opened in 1985, and the company changed its name to Bed Bath & Beyond in 1987. The company sells beauty products, health and fitness products, home decor, bedding, kitchen products, bathroom products, furniture, outdoor furniture and decor and smart home and home improvement products.
